M106 in Canes Venatici is a spiral galaxy about 25 million light years away. Large telescopes will reveal two spiral arms emerging from the central area into the halo of matter which surrounds the galaxy, but at magnitude 9.50 it is unlikely to be seen at all in binoculars.
It is believed that a black hole is at the centre of M106, with a mass of at least 35 million Suns.
