Fresh versions of these maps are uploaded on the first of the month, every month. The maps are designed to be accurate at the given latitude around 2300 at the beginning of the month.
The map will also be accurate at 2200 local time mid-month and at 2100 hours local time at the end of the month. Click here for an explanation of this.
When you first go to a star map you will be presented with a north facing view. Click on the right and left arrows to rotate your view to east and west and continue round to south if you wish. There is also an up view, which will provide you with a view of the stars above your head.
Remember, the night sky is, in effect, a giant dome whereas a computer monitor is flat. Therefore, the appearance of the night sky will be quite different from how it seems here. However, these maps should give you an idea of which constellations are on show and where to find them.
